Unfriend me if you want, but it must be said- (SCENE HOT TAKE-)

I'm SO TIRED of how some ppl present the scene subculture!
And no, I don't mean scenecore, although I do hate that XDD
I mean how ppl present actual scene, like... How come when someone asks "What's scene fashion?" the first thing everyone says is "Fishnet fingerless gloves" like, search up "Scene kid" on Google and go to images, how many ppl IN THE 2000S will you see with fingerless gloves? Shiii, I just did it and I only found 2 after scrolling down 5 times- And neither of them were wearing fishnet gloves, they were wearing leather ones! It's SUCH an INSIGINIFICANT part of the subculture yet it's the first thing everyone mentions! .-. When I think of scene accessories I think of diamond shaped necklaces and studded belts, not fishnet fingerless gloves, I'm not sure if it's just becuz ppl like fingerless gloves or what but honestly it gives me vibes of just misunderstanding the subculture- LIKE I'm not saying your not scene if U wear fishnet fingerless gloves (I've typed dat a lot XDD), I think it can work with the scene style! I just don't see it as like- As apart of the subculture as like, studded belts-

And OH DEAR the striped shirts under t-shirts- I'm gonna tread carefully with this one since I have some friends who do this BUUUT- Like fingerless gloves, I'm not saying ur not scene if you wear this, U can wear it if U want, I have a friend who does and they're still scene as ever! I just 100% do not see it as apart of the subculture- Like, ya, some emo kids wore it but notice how I said emo kids, not scene kids- Like u can do it if you want it's just 100% not a scene look imo- Biggest hot take of mine, yes- Like, fr, I don't even know HOW it became associated with the scene subculture like I've NEVER seen a scene kid in the 2000s wear a striped shirt under a t-shirt- I'm prolly just gonna stop here cuz I don't want to upset any friends but- It's just not scene to me- Again U can wear it and be scene but like if you were to make a spreadsheet of inherently scene clothing PLEASE don't add striped long sleeved shirts with t-shirts over em- x_x

And finally, kandi. I think it's scene to wear kandi, yes
But when it's clear that you cared more about piling kandi onto your outfit than... Your outfit
Ugh
Seriously, someone needs to tell today's kids that more kandi does not equal more scene- Fr the more kandi you pile on the more poser u look to me cause it gives me "I can't actually dress scene so I'm just going to pile kandi on to compensate" vibes- Like, some scene kids in the 2000s just never wore kandi PERIOD and they still looked scene so like why do ppl think that "Oh I have to be wearing 2 cuffs on each arm and 20 singles including a kandi perler necklace to look scene!" like NO- X'D

All of these stereotypes are weird cuz like... A good chunk of scene kids in the 2000s actually wore pretty normal clothing- XDD

Finally, if you have any of these looks, I'm not saying your not scene since being scene is linked to the moosic and U can mix and match styles! I'm just tired of people advising aspiring scene kids with these clothing items as if they're inherently scene, y'know? If only ya'll could see my Pinterest boards... =3=

not to be mean but why tf does it even matter??? i thought all these subcultures of scene/emo/goth/punk/whatever etc were a form of self expression. so why do you care so much about how other people express themselves? arent all these alt subcultures based in music, anyways?? the only way any of that stuff you mentioned would make someone a poser is if they dont listen to the music or if theyre inauthentic about who they are. stop making people self conscious about whether or not they look like a poser based on a damn outfit. let people label themselves however they want, they arent hurting anyone. at the end of the day it literally does not affect your personal life in any way whatsoever. you dont get an award for being "more scene" than the next person just because you dress a little different than them. im sick and tired of this "holier than thou" mindset in these subcults. if it bothers you so much do what i do when something insignificant bothers me.....take a deep breath and tell yourself "its not worth wasting my breath" and then move the f*ck on. theres so much more to worry about in life. worry about what your favorite band is doing or worry about what kandi youre gonna make next. jeez. for people who "dont give a sh*t" you sure as hell give a sh*t about what others are doing. why waste your time tearing someone down for "being a poser" when you can lift them up and compliment their belt or shirt or kandi or smth...........goddamn. we're a community, not enemies.

ppl trying to exclude ppl from being scene is so funny to me bc scene originally meant poser lmao (basically ppl who were 'only into hardcore for the scene and not the music'). if u engage with ur local alternative scenes i promise no one cares abt kandi or fishnet gloves!

i dont have the attention span to read this all. but i skim through it . but i just wanna say scene is really just music based and you can express it with scene style and ofc you dont JUST have to listen to scene stuff. ofc like 100 gecs and mitski arent scene but you can still like them and still listen to brokencydedomoblob

what i think of when i think of scene:

- music

- studded belts

- the eyeliner around the eye

- the light pink lipgloss

- low rise jeans

- bows

- colors (doesn't have to be a lot, but a sudden pop, yk?

- combed over hair (you know the one im talking about)

- pale foundation

- the high up angle lol

- PATTERNS LOTS OF PATTERNS

- kandi (not a whole bucketload, but like a few singles)

- the language (ex: rawr, XD, rofl, h8, etc)

- diamond necklaces

- ripped skinny jeans

- piercings galore

- combat boots with colored laces

-SILLY BANDS

-leather gloves

lmk if any of this is incorrect

i stopped caring about specifics regarding subcultre fashion a long ass time ago..i mix and match everything. fishnet gloves, kandi, graphic t's, funky belts. mall goth, punk rock, forest punk, sick-cute, gyaru, fucking, *heavy metal cowboy* that's something i do. but regarding scene specifically i actually associate it with like, bright graphic band tees like this attack attack shirt, pop culture references all over everywhere (cookie monster socks, pikachu hat, etc etc), lots of belts, clashy rainbow animal print, high tops, and mostly fitted clothing. oh and printed tights/leggings, which im very sad i can't actually wear bcs sensory issues. i just got this hat recently and i don't think wear hats very often cuz i dont think i look good in them but i think it's very cool and very scene kao cool i wear it with a fucking top ramen belt.

it's extremely wild to read this thread as someone who was a teenager in the late 2000s and early 2010s but. you aren't wrong.

i don't associate kandi with scene fashion at all but i'm just old :3

(also omg sorry i didn't realise how old this thread was, i forgot i found this post when i was searching for how to make a kandi glove >__>)

To add on:

I'd like to clarify on the fingerless gloves part cause I think I sounded like I was saying fingerless gloves just weren't apart of the style period-

I've seen some scene clothing ideas that included fishnet fingerless gloves and they looked pretty dart-dang-diddly scene! MAD Molly has worn fingerless gloves in some TikToks (Not fishnet, striped, but like those feel even MORE poser to me and she made em work so that means fishnet must be free real estate-) and she's a scene queen! Heck, my persona is scene and she wears fingerless gloves (For now, I plan on redesigning her), I think it can work with the style! It just isn't a massive part of the subculture, y'know? Like, it's REALLY insignificant- Like, y'know how it's harder to look scene without a studded belt? Ya, you could ONE HUNDRED PERCENT look scene without fishnet fingerless gloves- That's what I mean, not that you can't wear it and look scene, you could look ULTRA SCENE with fishnet fingerless gloves! It's just like... A really insignificant part of the subculture, y'know?

Finally, let me end this with a scene kid rocking fishnet fingerless gloves
