Help determining the amount of needed string.

Angelic_Space_Boi 6/15/2023 04:00 pm 344

I am planning on making a flat panel and I have a limited amount of stretch string. Is there a formula to determine the amount of needed string based on the height and width (amount of beads). I’ll update with the height and width later if need be. Thank you in advance for any help or advise

Edit: There is three panels. The first is 50x30, the second is 50x43, and the third is 14x30.

Edit #2: Thank you for your help! I will now be closing this thread (or locking it idk).

okie, i'm gonna do a proportions equation to get an approximate length for ya. let's work off of TurboBeads Peyote stitch cuff, because it uses the same stitch. He uses 5 feet of string, and 144 beads. That's our first ratio, 5ft/144beads. Our second ratio is X (the amount of string we're solving for) divided by the amount of beads in your first panel. The amount of beads in your first panel (the 50 by 30) is 1500 beads. So, next we look at our fractions and cross multiply them. 5 gets multiplied by 1500, x gets multiplied by 144. Our equation now looks like 144x = 7500. Now we divide both sides by 144 to get x. In this case, x = approximately 52.083, so i'd round up to 53 or 54 feet.

you can use the same equation for your other panels, but here's the answers so you don't have to do the math laughing

50x30 panel = 53-54 feet, 50x43 panel = 75 -76 ft , 14x30 panel = 15 - 16 ft(these are all rounded up just in case, but since you have limited string the lower number of footage should still work in theory)

id guess like. how wide it is in whatever measurement of choice times 1.6 times how many rows BUT I have no idea this is just a complete guess.

eg, 5 cm wide and 4 rows would be 5*1.6*4 = 32 cm of string

This is a total guess
