Help with my frog!!

513b39525823e_crying.gif I know this isn’t Kandi related but I really have no where else to ask this! I have a pet green tree frog and of course google never helps whenever I’m worried about him. Hopefully someone on here knows more then I do… My dad noticed a black spot on his back. I tried to take it off but it wouldn’t budge. It looks like it caves in a little and is raised around the edges. Does anyone know what it could be or something I could do to check what it is??? Any help is appreciated, really.

@icosa0550: I’ve had him for a year and knew less then half of that. Thank you very much!!! I just messaged my dad to see if we can take him somewhere and he said that he thinks it’s just dirt and said I shouldn’t worry crying I’ll definitely try and get him some food other then crickets though. Thank you again all that information is very hepful!!

@Dvmb422: don't take my word as absolute gospel but it sounds like an infected cricket bite to me. crickets are prone to munching on everything, i had a praying mantis that lost a leg to crickets. cry you need to switch his prey items if you can, you can give him earth worms or wax worms (never wild caught) or fruit flies. i'd do with d. hydei if you go with fruit flies, you'd probably have to feed him a lot but you can find all of those at a dedicated reptile pet store, and you can culture your own fruit flies. if you don't change his food i would suggest supervising meal times so that it doesn't happen again.

before anything else i would recommend you go to an exotic vet. they will know more than anybody else about how to treat your little guy. that being said I'm not sure what your access to vets are so this is what I've found:

I've never had frogs but from the information i've found you can use a small amount of NON MEDICATED neosporin on the spot (seriously make 100% sure there's no pain reliever, it'll k/ll small animals). I've never heard of using non medicated neosporin on critters but it's from a seemingly reputable frog forum and i figure they know more than me. It sounds odd though.

I've always used raw honey for my critters, it has antibacterial properties and is just good for them anyway in small amounts. I've been checking reddit and apparently honey baths are common treatment for bacterial / fungal infections and just generally sick frogs. you make a bath with 8oz (liquid cup) of warm dechlorinated water and 3-4 drops of honey, and cover the frog up to their chin (you may not use all of the water, that's ok). make sure it covers the spot but he can still stand. leave him in there for 20 minutes and then give him a bath of just dechlorinated water to wash it off. this is a common treatment for digestive issues but i've read it can help with skin issues. you can do this every few days, but i wouldn't do it every day bc you don't want to stress him out.

I would seriously seriously recommend that you take him to an exotic vet if you can. It can be unsafe to treat them at home even if you know what you're doing. maybe you could also convince your dad to post a question on reddit on your behalf to get better information.

hope he gets better, keep us posted! heart bounce
