Why do people head canon?

Like seriously I don't get it. Especially like if it's not your character why are you changing stuff to that character :/ Can someone explain what is so "good" abt head cannoning? Because I have no idea what's so good about like seriously

Personally, I headcanon because i like to add small but cute things about characters I like ^w^

my favorite headcanon is that john is a cat person and keeps TONS of cats around Gideon's. He will even stop games to take cats out of rooms that the game is taking place in XD

It's fun, and it comes in so many forms, it can be for representation for queer, trans, disabled, poc, etc. etc. Or it can be goofy things like "I bet (character) does (activity)"

plus, liking only the cannon interpretation of a character/piece of media gets a bit boring, and eventually spinning the narrative to one's thoughts and ideas could give that person more enjoyment of the series

it's fun as shit. yeah, canon characters can be good, but imagining what it could be like if they were something else is just plain fun. it's like playing with dolls.
