Well, the only way to become friends with someone is to interact with them consistently! Just get to know him, maybe ask to hang out after school or during lunch or something. Don't make it so obvious you're just trying to get with him—you've gotta show him you appreciate him for who he is.

And besides, being friends first is a lot better anyway; you'll get a better sense of whether or not you'd actually be compatible in a different type of relationship. Right now, since you don't know him, you like the idea of him.
