If you used elastic string, you can probably just pull it over your head (I have to do that with mine) also if it's a multi-stitch, before you tie it off you could make a little flower charm/button and attach it to one end (with that end being tied already) and tie the other end's string in a loop to make it a functioning button ^^ hopefully that makes sense-
