Difference between doubles and phattys?

I'm still trying to get use to some of the sayings: I know they're a type of single with more then one layer so what's the difference?

The difference is the number of layers. A single has one layer, a double has two, and a phattie has more than that. The tutorials I've seen say that 3 layers = a phattie, but there might be some debate over that.
