PLEASE KEEP POLITICS OUT!!! Controversial opinions/Hot takes/unpopular opinions

Fluorite_Draws 6/2/2023 10:30 am 2054

I've noticed way too many people going political and others getting mad at me for it. And for that I apologize, I was not trying in any way to have people go away with political stuff I seriously thought people were just going to say like "Something is better than this", but then people started making all about politics and then people started getting mad at me for "making it social media" I honestly had no clue that people where going to start attacking each other because of different political views. I am super sorry to everyone I offended. So with that PLEASE REFRAIN FROM PUTTING POLITICS!! I just want a thread where people can express their feelings on dumb things and not get attacked for example my unpopular opinion is that Alfredo sauce is gross and marinara is way better. I get some people are still going to be mad at me and think my apology is half ass, but I assure you it is NOT, that everything I say here is 100% genuine and I seriously did not expect people to get so mad. So please my only request please STOP putting politics into this thread. I realize my joke "oh boy this is going to be heated" wasn't funny to everyone and I genuinely thought that people could tell it was a joke so I do apologize for not adding tone tags or anything like that, or even adding the fact I didn't want politics. So I will say this again please NO politics. /srs /gen /nm

this thread shouldnt exist. i don't say this to be mean, for the record, i say this because this still being up is genuinely only going to lead to more people fighting and this site turning more and more toxic. like heckarockstick said earlier, crumpet really should lock this thread. this is supposed to be a nice kind site where we share kandi patterns, not a cesspool of infighting
genuine question by the way, why did you make this thread anyways? again, not trying to be rude or mean, i just don't get why you asked for hot takes while knowing and accurately predicting it would get heated
even if i dont agree with some of you, i hope you all have a good day lil rainbow /gen /npa

@Raydoesnthaverabies: hey, BPD does not stand for Bipolar, it stands for Borderline Personality Disorder.

It's also very possible to be diagnosed with both Bipolar and Borderline under the age of eighteen, and that's according to the DSM. Youth with bipolar and boderline face a LOT of stigma, so I wanted to clear this up! /nm

And to all minors with Bipolar Disorder or BPD, I see you, you're completely valid. You're so strong, and you're doing a good job, okay?

ed stigma shouldnt exist. It is never ok to shame or stigmatize someone for their mental health issues that they can't control.

@bunston: I just I was interested to see other people's beliefs. I understand why you don't think the thread should exist, but I think people should be allowed to share their opinions without others getting mad at them.

@Fluorite_Draws: i dont really think making a thread with "this is gonna get heated" in the desc reads as "providing a space where people should be allowed to share their opinions without others getting mad at them". you like, knew people were gonna get mad, right? again, as heckarockstick said, this site is literally full of children, and as sleepy_loss pointed out, said kids on here literally spreading misinformation. blatant misinfo about a mental illness is not a "hot take" nor a "belief", lmao. this isn't exactly the place to start fights and (something crumpet has literally expressed) this isn't a social media. this is supposed to be fun.

since this thread has the common topic of self diagnoses, im going to share my opinions on it bc ive been waiting for a chance too!

  • self diagnoses is valid. and saying it isn't, is inherently racist, sexist and ableist. there is no way to be against self diagnoses without being against minorities. notice how you never see a white, able-bodied, man self diagnose? yeah, that's bc hes not a minority. Doctors refuse to diagnose poc, ESPECIALLY woc. they refuse to diagnose those already with a disability. I was refused an autism diagnoses for a long while bc they said 'it's just your depression!' when in reality, no, it was autism!! they refuse to treat women properly, they refuse to treat poc properly, they push everyone that isnt white, rich, able-bodied and a man aside. that's how it works. not everyone is privileged to get a diagnoses. besides, it's SO expensive to get a diagnosis, and it can take YEARS. i was in the waiting list for my autism assessment for literally 2 years. diagnosis isn't one trip to the doctor, it's MULTIPLE trips to the doctor, and to a therapist, do you know how quickly that all can pile up? it can cause THOUSANDS in the end, just for a few appointments, ESPECIALLY if you don't have health insurance. if someone doesn't have health insurance, their only choice literally 99% of the time is to self diagnoses.
  • then theres the argument of 'but what if they're wrong?!' so what if they are? doctors misdiagnose people ALL THE TIME, how's it any different if a self diagnosed person does it by accident? how is it any different then someone accidently making a mistake? if you misdiagnose yourself, thats FINE! you made a mistake, and you move on, and you do more research.

tldr ; being against self diagnoses is inherently anti-poc, anti-women, and anti-disabled. you either support ALL mentally ill/disabled folk, including the self diagnosed ones, or you support NONE of us.
