calling people posers is so lame

i am literally so sick and tired of hearing people throw around the word poser and honestly whenever i hear someone use it, i try and steer clear of them. like whats the point in gatekeeping things that make someone happy?? (obviously unless someone is being hateful but yk thats a given)

like if someone only listens to a popular emo bands, they're still emo. it doesnt discredit them and it makes no sense how it could??

but idk maybe im misunderstanding something, pls tell me if i am

but i do actually listen to a lot of dif punk bands, and ion rlly care who calls themself punk or alt or wtv as long as they ain't spreading misinformation

but I've fully supported acab all my life <3 even my dad does... but for his own reasons

@Moon9: Ya, I totally agree! I'm a scene kid who dosen't believe Mindless Self Indulgence is scene but I still sometimes listen to them! It's just the people who think they're scene because they listen to MSI that make me go...

@xXJustJoking8P: I agree but I'd like to say that you can mix and match subcultures, and you don't have to ONLY listen to music of that one subculture, like an emo might listen to and like Melanie Martinez it doesn't make them any less emo (not saying you said anything like that just wanted to add a point)

ik why do we call the people who aren't doing any harm and just trying to have fun posers when the literal Racists get left alone? We need to get our priorities straight bc it's really unfair, instead of calling kids who don't know unpopular bands posers show them some bands, educate them, help them. It's stupid ik how hard it is to find bands who aren't popular, ik how hard it is to find good sources of research on alt subcultures, so I love to help ppl and give band reccs.

The word "poser" is used when someone calls themselves a certain alt when they obviously aren't one. For example, an emo saying they're punk or a kandi kid calling themself scene. It's frustrating for people in the actual alt because it muddies what the alt actually is, like how people are now mistaking scene for being just rainbow chains, Gir, and Danganronpa and mistaking emo for being spiked collars, Melanie Martinez, and buckle boots- Enough posers eventually causes the downfall of an alt, like how so many people have an incorrect view of scene nowadays and it also makes it incredibly hard for people who actually are the alt to find others in the alt cause they just keep coming across posers who have no characteristics of the alt. Not to mention, most posers call themself the alt not cause they actually resonate with it, but because it's a cool flashy title or cause it's trending. "Poser" can also be used for someone who is in the alt for just one TikTok to gain views but it's not used like that much from what I know. When people say "being alt isn't just a phase, it's a lifestyle" they aren't joking so seeing more and more people claim to be your lifestyle when they clearly aren't to the point where no one even knows what your lifestyle is anymore gets very annoying.

I hope I explained it well here, sorry if this came off as confrontational, I'm just very passionate about this!

(Edit to add: Although I do agree saying "You don't like this band, your a poser" or "Your hair isn't exactly like this, your a poser" is stoopid, lol)
