typing quirks (rant)

i'm going to say something people might get mad over, but a lot of typing quirks are annoying.

i want to know what you have against using the right letters. why do you use numbers in place of letters? like, i can understand doing it for a username, link, etc, but everytime you type something? do you know how hard that is to read, especially to people who have reading disabilities like myself? what do you have against the letter s?

i can understand people who don't use capital letters. i can understand those who don't use commas unless it's serious. that doesn't mess with reading comprehension and word processing. replacing letters with other characters does.

idk. i don't have anything else to add. i just wanted to rant about this and get it out of my system.

I hate typing quirks so much. I really don't mind it for usernames and such, but for actual messages I think they suck.
Especially when it's huge blocks of text. I can read them fine usually for smaller messages unless it's something ridiculous, but when it comes to big messages I can't.
I don't have any sort of disability when it comes to reading, but I do struggle with reading comprehension specifically online, so I sometimes use a screen reader to help out while i'm reading. Typing quirks make that really hard to do. Keep in mind that i'm not even using the screen reader as a disabled person. Someone who did have a disability that made it harder or even impossible for them to read stuff online would be absolutely screwed.

Honestly if you want to use a typing quirk I think that you should do it in private messages or like,, a server that specifically allows typing quirks. Somewhere it's actually harmless. I'm glad that people can find joy in it, but when it's making things more difficult for others around them they need to stop.
I personally don't think providing translations is enough, but it does at least make it better. It's like there being a wheel chair ramp but having to go around the back of the building to get to it. It's technically accessible but it still sucks and makes everyone's life more difficult.

only typing quirk I’m okay with is when it’s like, replacing one letter cuz the key is broken, like my “i” key was broken on my old keyboard for so long so I replaced it with a 1 till it worked bc i physically had no alternative but after a while I realized how fucked up it made screen readers I just started copying and pasting it but I get the effort if it’s broken - algae

@BLOODSTAINEDGEM: i have *never* seen anyone's dni relate to their typing quirk, or have a typing quirk because their "discomfort of letters", the only person i've ever seen refuse to give a translation or think they're "righteous" was someone one twitter, which is a hell hole in and of itself so that doesn't surprise me there.

also i'm well aware that i can ask for translations but quite frankly if i can't even read it to start with than i'm not going to get far enough to even bother asking for one and instead just continue on with my life

it just stresses me out tbh. I don't have a reading dysability, in fact i excel in the subject, but I do have a learning disability of sorts (autism) and translating it is genuinely so annoying. like please add a translation? tbh I don't understand the point of them. It doesn't make it look cool it makes you hard to understand.

typing quirks are usually strictly for fun or whatever, but they generally always should come with a translation afterwards regardless kao yeskao yes
