Duplicate questions?

How do you guys feel about people submitting duplicate questions? I don't know if I should delete duplicates and direct them to existing questions, or allow duplicates in case new people have some answers. If this was a forum, I might merge or bump "threads."

Sorry, you are unable to reply. If the thread is still open, you might have been blocked from commenting due to spam or abuse, or we might not have been able to verify that you are a real account. Try updating your profile and interacting more on the site. There are greater restrictions on forum comments due to spam. Spam comments will still not be published, even for verified accounts

Now that I think about it, the site already has things that would make it more like a full forum: avatars, quotes, private messages, smileys. So maybe I can just turn it into one myself. I really don't want to use a forum script.

I am actually just about to start recoding the questions. I have all the other parts mostly done, just need to finish them and have people test. I haven't decided if I want to expand it into a full forum or not. I can't make it into a fully-featured forum without integrating forum software, and that gets really messy. I could turn it into a simple forum, but that's kind of what it already is apart from the name "Questions" :/ Anyway, the new site has a few new features, nothing shocking or amazing. The main thing is that it's a lot easier to use, a lot more stable/secure, and has notifications. Oh, and it looks better

-deleted this last part because I don't want to give you false hope, need to wait until it's closer lol-

I like the idea of getting rid of answered duplicate questions. I get so tired of seeing the some of the same questions over and over. And is the questions thing going to be expanded into a forum in the new site? Heck, what all are you planning for the new site?

there is a search box so that you don't have to go through all the pages, but nobody seems to use it

I used to have it automatically search as you were typing the question, but the results weren't accurate enough. if I can get them more accurate (I'm working on it) I'll put it back.

i think duplicates should be left because it is too hard to flip through hundreds of past questions to find an answer u r looking for

Yeah, I always delete string questions and link them to the existing questions. Maybe duplicate questions should also be allowed if there weren't any/many real answers last time, e.g. how to make a gas mask.

I guess it depends on the questions, like i get tired of seeing stuff like "what kind of string should i use?" thats something i would just give them a link to the same question someone has answers for. Other stuff like "what should i make" and what not depends.
