Therian/other hearted questions?

so I've known about Therians / otherkin / alterhuman for a while and I always thought it was cool but I never thought I'd be one? But for a couple of years now when I get really happy (or just in general) I imagine/feel a raccoon tail/ears?? I don't even think about it, the idea of being a raccoon is just such a nice experience? I feel really connected to raccoons and i love seeing raccoon therian videos/masks, but ive never had any shifts or anything. I learned about otherhearted (correct me if I'm wrong, but its when you feel a really deep connection to an animal but not to the point of full therian) and it sounds like me?? I'm not sure,,,,, and recently I've been doing the same thing as the raccoon stuff but with bug antenna? I just dont know what any of this means and its starting to confuse me

yeah I'm having problems with this sort of thing too because I think I have species dysphoria! But I'm not sure... idk... it's making me really upset tbh because I want to identify as a werewolf/werecat because it just feels right but I'm really worried I'm somehow faking it (which makes pretty much no sense but idk).

I definitely have the same feeling with having bird or bat wings!!!

Idk much about the community yet myself but don't worry too much. Your identity should be something that makes you happy, not worried. Labels can be nice but you don't have to understand exactly what you're feeling right away, or ever at all!

you're correct in your understanding of otherhearted! I don't hear people talk about it as often as therians but it's basically just feeling very connectted to something. i'm dragonhearted, for me that means that i heavily identify WITH dragons, whereas somebody who's otherkin / therian would say that they identify AS their kin. my understanding is that therian is exclusively used for real creatures that either have existed or do exist on earth. so dinosaurs, canines, insects, literally any real creature living or extinct. whereas otherkin is for mythical / fictional creatures, characters, ect. also fictionkin is specifically used for people who kin a fictional character(s) or species! (couldn't be me /s)

also you don't have to experience shifts to be a therian. some people get gatekeepy abt it but only you know how you really feel and identify. if you want info on therians i'd check out the r/therian subreddit if you haven't already.

also raccoons are so cute fr i love those little guys
