X Cuffs look like unholy math goblins but are so easy to do that you'll think you've evolved into a superior species when you finish your first one. Black and something bright for the contrast beads is a good choice to start with.

depends on what kind of cuff youre talking about! if youre doing a peyote i suggest stripes (each horizontal row is a different color), and if youre doing a multi you can do a sort of rainbow cuff. start with a single of one color, and then do two rows of another, and then two rows of another, and on and on until you like how it looks :3
