I actually really really like gen5, but really only the movie. I absolutely agree with the fact gen5 doesn't seem to hold a candle to gen4, and there's a lot of stuff that just doesn't sit well with me. I haven't really watched the show, probably because only watching the movie maybe makes it better because I have to fill in some gaps myself??? Idk what im talking about, but even though im a fan of g5, yeah, it's disappointing, trying to cater to even younger children :/ but I do love the mane 5 + sprout (omg i actually love how he doesn't just give up his ways at the end of the movie- finally one trope in kids films not used \0.0/)

i think a lot of "new gens" of early-mid 2000's stuff is lowering their target audience. like, the new monster high stuff. i watched the whole show, i actually like it! but the art style is so rounded, it feels nothing like the dolls themselves (which is funny because the doll tv shows (and mlp) are made to sell toys but if i grew up with g3 monster high instead of g1 i wouldn't have wanted the dolls because im autistic and change upsets me)

anyway even though the art style of mlp didn't change *that* much i think the fuzzy 3d thing is so overdone. there's something unique about 2d animation that's lost with the disney-pixar 3d thing, and it makes everything feel so much *safer*. like yeah it's made for kids but so was g4 mlp and it still had so much personality, even when it wasn't pseudo-embracing its adult audience. the new generation lacks that spark.
