(TW: blood) Some mildly early Valentine's day art!!!

Deleted Account 2/12/2023 12:33 am 766

I don't really share my art on here, but I picked up watercolors again after a few months of not painting so i painted this valentines day sniper!! i would've just put it in the images but it doesn't cover up the image thus making the trigger warning kinda pointless

@SammyTheTrans: If you want like actual tips uh well the obvious thing is the more water you add the lighter it gets, so if you want something really transparent put your color on a palate and pour a bit of water in it, this only really works if the palate has an edge that goes up. I used that for the background (which is very uneven and streaky because I don’t have a large brush so I kinda finger painted it on but I actually quite like the look of it for this piece but that’s kinda irrelevant, but it’s also a given that you’ll get a smoother and faster cover of a large area with a large brush) I actually tried something new with painting the background a light color before going in and sketching. I know it’s a popular thing to do but I actually don’t wet my paper before painting on it, i tend to use a lot of water anyways and I don’t wanna bleed stuff everywhere. I also use an erasable colored pencil for sketching since it doesn’t really smudge into the paper like normal pencil lead likes to do with me on watercolor paper for whatever reason. But anyways about actual watercolors I use these kinda cheap tin paints set I got off Amazon, you can get really nice Etsy paints for more expensive though they’re usually sold in individual tins like a lot of company made professional paints, but anyways i usually lay down my base colors first and then shade and mess up horribly and restart many times from there. (Pro tip keep your papers from messed up paintings, you can use it to swatch stuff while your painting) I recommend you get those little cotton pads and keep a pack near your incase you accidentally get a place too watery or pigmented or something cause you can soak it up a bit if it’s still wet though if you want an area to still be dark after your do this you’ll have to layer it some more. A nice thing about water color is you can get a bunch of different values from one color just by adding or using less water, you can also mix colors really easily. Hopefully that was a good explanation
