@GalaxyKodaShifter297: might be a good idea!! there are several different plural disorders, so it might not be DID exactly. dm if you have any questions you're not comfortable asking the forum!

@Sleepy_Loss: So it seems I might need to look into DID more because I thought that what you described as MD was something else and I thought what @Strawberry_BroStrider described as A fictive was MD and I thought I was just doing that but I think I should try and look into it lol

i can explain the difference between fictives, maladaptive daydreams,

a fictive is an alter that is based off a fiction character from any media, or off of a fictional person. there's a bit of conversation around wether an alter based off a youtuber, streamer, politician etc would be a fictive or factive, but generally fictives are from media, rather than the creator of it.

maladaptive dayreaming is a coping skill developed in trauma, basically it's a type of dissociation. with maladaptive daydreaming, you know you're daydreaming and have a separation from the charcters you've created. they feel important, but not like a part of you in the same way alters do. I've also found that characters I maladaptive daydream about, even ones that fictives have been based off of, behave in a certain way. they follow a script. fictives won't /lh

Well fictives themselves are alter's sourced from a character. Kinning is having a strong connection to a character, but is not being sourced from them. Obsessing is just really liking someone/something to the point where it affects your every day life. i'm not sure abt kinshifting, maladaptive dreaming, & psychosis tho.

hope that helped :3

Quite a few people in the replies have explained what kinning is, so I'll just explain what a fictive is. A fictive is an alter that is based off of a fictional character from a movie, tv show, book, manga, or other types of media. They usually have the same name, basic personality, and/or behaviors of the character they were based on, but that is not always true. Also, kinning is a conscious choice and being a fictive is not. Fictives do not choose to be fictives, the brain chooses it for them, and they form that way. (TW for basic mentions of trauma, nothing in detail) Since alters form because of trauma, there are a few reasons a fictive alter could form. The brain could believe that a character will save them from their trauma, a character could feel like a parental figure/sibling/someone to look up to, or that the character would be able to deal with whatever situation/traumatic event that the brain is experiencing, and more.

(albeit singlet) kinnie here!

kins are inherently independent from systems, but i’m sure that they can become alters! they’re basically just when you’re extremely attached to a character and kind of see them as yourself in a way. i personally see mine as a self-insert and kind of a coping mechanism cause the reason mine resonate with me sm is because they remind me of the way i was before my trauma :’) of course the kinning experience is vast and other people might feel differently about them but that’s how mine is like eyeroll

and maladaptive daydreaming is also independent from systems; it’s when you daydream so much that it affects your daily life. i don’t have it myself, but one of my friends do

So kin here not a system but i just want to specify kinning and versions of kinning
There's two kinds of kins, spiritual kins which is what kinning all started out as, and the more modern version of kinning.

Most people who kin now are mostly just people who relate deeply to a character and project onto them/ see themselves in the character.

Alternatively kinning originally was based in reincarnation and multiple universe theory beliefs, and was basically believing your past life was that of a fictional character, who in an alternate universe was a real person you get the idea. This is where kin shifting came from initially with shifting being tied to getting getting feelings and memories from a particular past life.

TLDR : Kinning in both forms is a belief that one chooses to believe in either for belief system purposes or coping/comfort reasons and has literally nothing to do with systems, alters, or fictives.

Honestly I feel like a few google searches could get u better answers but here i ammariocar (note: im not a system but only one of these terms really relates to systems so i think im good lol)

fictive - member of a system based on a fictional character

kinning- some people define it differently, but the most commonly used definition is that you heavily relate to a character . some people do it for fun while others take it pretty seriously

kinshifting- when you feel a lot like your kin (i'll be honest i dont get this one too well)

obsessing- when you really like a character/thing

maladaptive daydreaming - uncontrollable daydreaming to a point where it becomes a problem/interrupts your daily life

psychosis- its really complex, google can give u better results

most important thing you need to know is treat fictives with respect. If you're obsessive over a character and someone is a fictive of that character, dont obsess over them cause theyre an actual real person with feelings !
