ok so basically these 6 kids in the St Cassian chamber choir go to a fair and ride the Cyclone roller coaster, but OH NO!!! The front axle breaks, causing it to derail and kill the kids. Years later, the fair is closed down but one attraction is still active: The Amazing Karnak, a fortune teller that got the kids to ride the Cyclone in the first place. He summons the spirits of the children and, as an apology, promises to bring one back to life. The kids consist of Ocean O'Connell Rosenberg, a self-centered over-achiever that thinks of herself as the most worthy of being brought back, Noel Gruber, the only gay man in Uranium w an obsession w French cinema, Mischa Bachinski, Ukrainian rapper w an internet girlfriend, Ricky Potts, a disabled boy w a fantasy of saving catgirls in space, Constance Blackwood, the "nicest girl in town" who struggles to love herself and her town, and Jane Doe, who was decapitated in the accident and became a Jane Doe due to her head never being found. The kids attempt to convince the others to vote for them in song w little to no avail, all except Jane, who doesn't sing abt her life or who she wanted to be like the others. No, she sings abt how she'll never be remembered as anything other than Jane Doe and begging to know who she was, which causes the kids to realize that she's not a monster, but a lost and confused girl that just wants to know who she is. Anyway, the kids have a lot of character development throughout these songs, such as Ocean seeing how everyone else had hopes and dreams just as important as hers, Mischa realizing that he's happy w his death as long as he has the comfort of imagining him and his gf being married, and Constance realizing that there was nothing wrong w loving Uranium (their town) and being the Nicest Girl in Town. By the end it's time for them to choose who to vote for, and instead of them all Karnak makes Ocean choose to final vote, I think he did this to test if she would actually choose herself but idk. Anyway Ocean says that while they all died young, they all still had memories and dreams to comfort them, all except Jane, who can't recall a single memory from her life. Due to this the choir members choose her bc they want her to experience life the way they did and to have the same joys in life.
