tips for flat kandi charms? (peyote & brick)

im new to making peyote and brick stitch charms and imo im pretty bad at it.

i dont understand the brick designs where i have to attach a few beads on top of the main chunk, either (where i cant just sew them on normally). ngl ANY tips help because ive only made like 5 charms so far and im kinda bad at it (esp where my stitching just looks messy)
