Question for those with Pokésonas!

HAI! I've been working on making a pokésona (Pokémon persona, for those who don't know- like a fursona but not necessarily anthro!) and I kinda hit a roadblock ;-; how do you balance adding accessories/altering the design with still being recognized as a pokémon? my sona is an Eevee :3 but I feel like what I add is either to boring or too weird o_O

keep the key features. example, mine is an espeon and i kept the jewel, split tail n eats but then u can take the creative liberity!!! i think for u, u should keep the chest fluff, ears and big ol' tail but besides that go wild~~!!!!
