Dear Reader,

This is just one star’s opinion. I will not say I speak for an entire community. I like this book but that doesn’t mean you have too. Please be respectful and if you have any comments or opinions please use tone indicators, and please be respectful.

I am simply trying to do what I love: and that’s writing about the things I am passionate about. I am not trying to force my opinion on anyone. I would love to hear your thoughts, weather you read the book or not.

Hey people, buckle in this is gonna be a long one.

So the book I am reviewing is Things I Should Have Known by Claire Lazebnik. It is a realistic fiction. And it's one of my favorite books.

This book stars Chloe Mitchell. She is a popular LA girl and she has an autistic older sister, Ivy Mitchell. After Ivy catches Chloe with her boyfriend Chloe thinks Ivy is lonely and needs a boyfriend. So Chloe sets Ivy up with a boy from Ivy’s “special needs” class, Ethan who is also autistic.

When Chloe takes Ivy on her first date with Ethan she finds out Ethan’s brother (named David) is the person Chloe hates most.

After a few more dates Chloe bonds with David, and Ethan bonds with Ivy. Though Ivy doesn’t seem to like Ethan like he likes her.

Well that's because Ivy has feelings for her friend Diana, who is in Ivy’s class. Chloe feels super bad that she didn’t think that her sister could be gay.

And then everything goes downhill from there, but don’t worry the book gets happy.

*******

So I love this book. It uses identity first language, it has realistic portrayals of autism (to me). Ivy is a very relatable character, and Chloe (though she made some questionable decisions) is a good sister. If you yourself are autistic or you know someone who is autistic I recommend this book. I also recommend this book if you are not autistic. It does a good job at saying that because you are autistic doesn't mean you can't be LGBTQ. And it shows a very strong sister bond.
