Ppl on the spectrum, advice?

So I have a friend who I'm pretty sure is on the spectrum? I think he mentioned it before but I think he's hyperfixiating on something and wants to talk to me a lot about it! Thing is it's something I know like nothing about and really can't bring myself to care about- I really want to support him since it's a harmless interest but I'm getting kind of annoyed hearing about it in every conversation. (If that makes me a scummy person? Idk?) I've noticed a lot of people here are on the spectrum so I'd love some advice on how to support him without just pretending to be interested-

being obsessed with a specific something is a symptom of having autism, and since you said that your friend might be on the spectrum, its completely normal for him to be thinking about things to that degree

i think the best way to comfort and support him while still being annoyed by that interest is by making things that are themed that interest (say kandi or a drawing of whatever it is) ONLY when he talks about it so that he could know that you support him

in your terms, you should just try to do or associate more with the things that you like so that that interest he has could come off your mind

I would try to ask questions abt it, or try to steer the conversation to one of their past hyperfixations that you like too

idk i would just try ur best and tell them that you may need help getting into it (cus when ppl push off my hyperfixations it feels like they r mad @ me)

honestly idk bc with my partner, im not that interested in their current hyperfixation (its hermit craft) but um i still watch it with them and ask them questions abt it and try to interact with the thing and stuff. idk if this advice helps or not- /lh
