Pattern approvals

Crumpet 1/30/2022 09:32 am 3386

The pattern approval system continues to be unsuitable for the large amount of patterns being submitted, and lately I'm the only moderator/admin approving any patterns, so it's impossible for me to get through them all. So I'm definitely missing a lot of patterns that should be approved. I'm very sorry about that, but there's not really a way around it at the moment. There's always going to be a degree of manual intervention involved, to ensure that patterns are valid, not inappropriate, not stolen etc.

For the most part what I'm doing currently is approving patterns once a week on a Sunday and filtering by patterns which have over 50 and over 100 votes, so that I can ensure that most of the super popular patterns are approved. I also often check out other patterns by the same user, if I'm already approving one pattern of theirs. But I'm looking at the most recent pages, so I'm not catching older patterns when I'm doing this. If your pattern received a high enough percentage of votes, it *IS* highlighted in the admin panel for approval. It's just a matter of wading through thousands of other patterns to get to it. And we can still override the number of votes if there's something wrong with the pattern (invalid/stolen etc).

If you've got any patterns older than two weeks which you think should have been approved, reply to this thread. You can tell me the specific pattern(s) if you want, but I'll check out all of your patterns anyway.

I have some other things I've got to do today, so I might not get to these until next weekend, so bear with me. I'm not going to reply to everyone, but I will check the patterns of everyone who posts here. Thank you.

update March 2022: I now have a new moderator helping me but the system is still very inefficient so this thread still applies.

Thank you so much for your continued hard work maintaining this wonderful site for us. If the approval backlog is too overwhelming, I'm sure lots of us would be willing to apply to be moderators to help you out with it!

*bump* because I’m approving patterns later and nobody has said anything about theirs yet. Because of timezones, I might not get to some of the comments until next weekend now (if anyone even comments).

Thanks. I’ve had to log off and am not sure I’ll get back on to approve more tonight but we’ll see. I’ll continue next week if not. I also rejected some that weren’t valid patterns (e.g cuffs with odd numbers of columns or designs which don’t match up when wrapped around) or didn’t have high enough votes or had reports etc.

Hi! I was wondering what is considered copying when it comes to patterns? I saw a someone submit a pattern that was a copy of someone elses that was submitted to be approved a few days earlier. The original was a cuff while the copied one just took the center design from the original and resubmitted it as a new design. Is that considered a stolen design? I would hate to be the pattern police but I wouldn't want to see someone's art being taken by someone else.

Hey! I have 5 patterns right now that are part of a set (all are unapproved) and one of them has 63 votes!

@felixforsure: yes, that’s considered stolen. Please report that if you see it. I saw a bunch that were stolen from me in a similar way, just taking parts of my designs.

If you’re ever in doubt, just report. We can choose to ignore the reports if we disagree.
