Pattern approvals

Crumpet 1/30/2022 09:32 am 3342

The pattern approval system continues to be unsuitable for the large amount of patterns being submitted, and lately I'm the only moderator/admin approving any patterns, so it's impossible for me to get through them all. So I'm definitely missing a lot of patterns that should be approved. I'm very sorry about that, but there's not really a way around it at the moment. There's always going to be a degree of manual intervention involved, to ensure that patterns are valid, not inappropriate, not stolen etc.

For the most part what I'm doing currently is approving patterns once a week on a Sunday and filtering by patterns which have over 50 and over 100 votes, so that I can ensure that most of the super popular patterns are approved. I also often check out other patterns by the same user, if I'm already approving one pattern of theirs. But I'm looking at the most recent pages, so I'm not catching older patterns when I'm doing this. If your pattern received a high enough percentage of votes, it *IS* highlighted in the admin panel for approval. It's just a matter of wading through thousands of other patterns to get to it. And we can still override the number of votes if there's something wrong with the pattern (invalid/stolen etc).

If you've got any patterns older than two weeks which you think should have been approved, reply to this thread. You can tell me the specific pattern(s) if you want, but I'll check out all of your patterns anyway.

I have some other things I've got to do today, so I might not get to these until next weekend, so bear with me. I'm not going to reply to everyone, but I will check the patterns of everyone who posts here. Thank you.

update March 2022: I now have a new moderator helping me but the system is still very inefficient so this thread still applies.

I made a pattern that wasn't approved, I didn't copy it at all and I want to know if I should resubmit it or not.

@heckarockstick: yes, I will approve those when I’m next approving patterns (it might not be until the weekend because I’m busy today).

@zz_ion_zz: Hmm. I’ll have a look at the weekend for you (added it to my todo list) but I can’t promise I’ll have an answer because we review too many patterns to remember the reason for every one, and the reason isn’t always obvious when I look at it. If you feel it was a mistake you can always remake it and resubmit to try again.

@CybrBoy: If it hasn’t been approved yet, choose “Copied from internet” as the report reason (I just added this option, been meaning to add it for a while). Copied from someone else would work too. If it has already been approved, message me with the links. I need to add a published pattern reporting option but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

We all love and appreciate what you are doing for us heart bounce, a quick question though, if a pattern is stolen from a different website/source, how should we report that? like should we message you with images of the websitecthat has the stolen pattern or somethign else?
