For me, being in the rave scene really isn't an option, im a mom and have to kids to take care of and cant be going out to raves although they look awesome. Also I don't do any drugs so I kind of feel uncomfortable with going to raves and such because although I know im not the only one that isn't involved in drugs I feel like im heavily out numbered and it makes me nervous because I don't want to be wrapped up in situations that make me uncomfortable. That being said I still love the culture and and the sense of support and love and community, I also love the styles and look, I do flow arts (hoop and poi).. I love the music... I have a lot in common with people that are actually going out to raves Im just not personally going out to them and I feel like most ravers who really go by plur or believe in acceptance and love and support would be ok with that.

I would categorize my bead creations as kandi, even though I have not attended a rave yet. I'm just too young. But I would like to go to raves when I am old enough, so I call it kandi. If I did not intend to join the rave culture when I am of age, I would not call it kandi. I believe that if you understand and respect the background of kandi, and you intend to rave when your older or already have raved, it is kandi. But, if you do not plan on raving, you should not call it kandi, but simply just beaded creations. Yet, even though I call mine kandi, I do not categorize myself as a kandi kid. I think that in order to be a kandi kid you would have to have gone to at least one rave. This is just what I believe. Long story short, intend to rave, its kandi, don't intend to rave, it is not kandi.

Looking at the last two answers, I have to say that there's no reason to get mad. He just asked an honest question. He never said we had to STOP making kandi, or that we were a shame for not raving. He just said "how". Don't get all riled up about this because when you do, all you're doing is hurting yourself. He even said he didn't mean to upset anyone in the question itself....

It's easy. Put beads on a string and voila. Okay, sorry. But seriously. This question pisses me off. I know Kandi originated in the rave culture, but is it so hard to believe that non-ravers can remember good and happy times through their creations?

This question makes me really mad! Okay, for example, i dont rave because there are nonn in my area (i have checked) and my parents dont want me to. Lots of the younger kandi makers really want to rave but they arent old enough!

I make kandi but I can't rave yet. I'm to young. But I don't go around and call myself a raver or kandi kid. I just make kandi because it's more like a hobby right now. And I'll also have stuff for when I do rave. happy

Age plays a really big part in it. My mom shudders at the thought of me going to a concert by myself, let alone going to a rave, and I don't blame her. But I still love making kandi (or whatever we call it since I don't rave -shrug-). I feel like this question borders on the stereotypical level, and I know you meant no harm by it. I just feel like it's saying, "How can you like Vans, and not go to Vans Warped Tour?" I know raves and Warped Tour are completely different, but it's along the same lines. Some people consider drugs to be a part of the rave culture. Does that mean if you don't do drugs at a rave, you aren't really raving? "PLURR" is part of the rave community as well, but I know plenty of people who believe in it and don't rave. Would that be the same thing as the kandi issue? Nonetheless, I respect you, and all other people who think the same as you do. (:

Making kandi is more of a hobby for me. I have a condition that keeps me from raving but believe me...if I could rave I would. I don't call myself a raver because that's not cool. Thankfully though I live in a town where practically no one knows what kandi or raving is but if someone sees me wear it and asks me what it is I just say that it's pretty jewelry I made for myself. I honestly wouldn't mind not being allowed to call it kandi I just love making it and that's enough for me.

I love to make it and wear it, kandi is pretty much my passion. I have over 200 pieces. But my mom won't let me go and she's very controlling. And I also don't go around saying I'm some hardcore raver kandi kid. THAT pisses me off when people do that(x
