Does anyone else do this-? (tw: slight blood mention)

Does anyone else bite their nails and peel their skin off their fingers until they bleed as well..? I know this is an extremely weird question but there is a reason why am asking

For awhile now I have been doing this and I have been asked about it so many times and I REALLY want to stop but when I do I get anxious and end up just giving in to my anxiety. I don't even know why it makes me so anxious but it might be a compulsion disorder. Can anyone give me some advice on ways to stop or at least cope with it?

I also apologize if this made anyone uncomfortable, it just has gotten to the point where I need help about it and I don't want to go to a counselor or a therapist for help 2.gif

@ceoofpennys: I feel like the super glue you use to put the fake nails on isnt good for your nails/skin. But look at me talking lolz

Thank you for the advice though ^^

@Parx_boys_are_life: At one time I just bit my nails and I was fine with it but then stopped biting them to let them grow out long so I could start getting my nails done, I ended up not getting them done anymore because the acrylic was ¨eating away¨ my nails, making them thinner :/

after that I just started peeling off the skin and now cant stop doing it sad

Thank you so much for the advice btw! happy

@scoobydoo: Oh wow, I have never heard of dermatillomania before you said it. that is exactly what my fingers look like and it is so painful omg I also have a past of very bad OCD that thankfully I have gotten over but the anxiety still stayed with me :/ I might look about ways to get over the dermatillomania thing, thank you so much for the advice <33

sounds like a stim/coping mechanism but I'd also recommend that you seriously look into dermatillomania. I personally pick at my skin/nails bc of anxiety & OCD but also sometimes as a stim (I'm autistic) [edit: I got carried away and forgot what the actual question was - I find keeping my nails short and clean can help but mostly I find drawing or practicing another fine motor skill can help. Also, you can buy special stones that simulate picking skin such as this one - https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/919807386/pumice-p... (not an ad just an example)]

as others said keeping them painted helps, i bite and pick at my nails if I try to grow them out, so maybe if they are shorter you won’t pick at them? I hope this helps thoug

I don’t bite my nails any more because I constantly have them painted (I also clip them very short so that I can’t bite them) but I constantly bite and pick at my fingers I think as a way of stimming so I tried some fidget toys and they did help but only temporarily but they might help you idk. Hope this might be helpful
