Miracle Musical is a project created by Joe Hawley, Ross Federman, and Bora Karaca who were all members in Tally Hall (Bora was more of an honorary 6th member I think) and the album tells a story of a man named Simon, kinda young maybe around 18 I think? This is going off the most popular theory btw but he sails to Hawaii (hence the name of the album Hawaii Part II) for a new life and he meets a woman (her name is never mentioned) and they fall in love with each other, and one day they go on a date or picnic in the forest, but they get separated for whatever reason and when Simon finds her again, she’s been murdered and he has a breakdown, because if the love of your life was murdered, you’d probably have a breakdown too, and when the case goes to court the evidence points to him so he pleads insanity to try to get out of it, but it works too well and he’s sent to a mental hospital where he undergoes electric shock therapy to “fix” him, which drives him to actual insanity, and later he tries to escape and he does and sails away on a boat, but you know he just got tortured and went insane because of it so he wasn’t the most prepared or anything, so he starts hallucinating and stuff and dies at sea because he didn’t have any supplies, and he’s reunited with his lover after death, and that’s where the album ends! This was a really bad explanation but I tried to summarize it ok, also if you look into the making of it, it actually goes back all the way into the 2000’s (it was released in 2012, on December 12, when everyone thought the world would end), and another album was technically released (I think it was only on bandcamp or something like that) and it’s labeled Hawaii Part II Part II and it contains a bunch of demos and effects they used, and the name Simon for the main character came from one of the earliest demos for the mind electric, which was called “inside the mind of Simon”, and there’s a ton of cool background effects, one of which is chanting that happens during the “nuns commence incanting as the lightning strikes mine temples thus” part which repeats the phrase “axon dendrite” (parts of the brain) and “help me”

okay but like heaven official's blessing is my entire LIFE right now i found it on netflix on accident while looking for something to watch and i just really loved the art and so i watched it all in one night and i laughed and i cried and i finished all 5 of the books in like 2 weeks and ive also read the manhua twice!!! and i've seen the show itself like 20 times now i think? i often put it on in the background while im making kandi and since there are only 13 episodes its fairly easy to rewatch

basically it's a romance adventure about this god who lost all his believers 800 years ago after a great tragedy befell his kingdom and he was basically made the scapegoat, and his only believer from his original ascension, who's now a notorious ghost king. they end up falling in love over the course of the story, learn about the past they have together!! and also all the while theyre slowly uncovering dark secrets about the rest of the gods in the heaven realm! it's a really well written story, the characters are all so well fleshed out that i find myself even loving the evil ones (but i think that's part of the point, it's sort of like a show that everyone falls into grey areas? idk it kind of reminds me of good omens in that way!!) and not to mention the way they build relationships between the characters is so well done!! plus the writing style of the books themselves is really need i like it a lot. there's a wonderful balance of angst and happy moments too, and by that i mean oh my god it's like 75% angst and i love it. i cried so many times while reading the books, book 2 and book 4 are literally the saddest things it's-- yeah i cried a lot is what im saying. it also has a lot of good morals. the way that one person can help you lift yourself from darkness is the biggest message that stuck out to me, because a lot of the times i feel isolated and alone, but even one person can help change that!!

and technically speaking, it's 100% an epic!! like the iliad or the odyssey!! i love telling people this because uhh it makes me sound smart /hj but really it has all the components of an epic (passage through hell, lots of divine intervention, a point where the hero has given up, a restitution of power, magic, a huge quest that normal humans wouldnt be able to go on) xie lian (mc) is an epic hero (intelligent and strong person who has [even before his ascension to godhood] superhuman ability who is mostly moral but isn't perfect), and it even follows the standard epic story structure that my literature teacher calls the "little e", where it starts in the middle of the story and the backstory and missing parts are filled in as it goes along. so that has been on my mind a lot lately since we're learning about epic tales in school and my hyperfixation is an epic!!!

i also kin 4 characters from the series FHDSKFHDHAKJ it's a whole mess im a whole mess /lh if you're wondering i kin the main two, xie lian and hua cheng, a sorta side character whos definitely neurodivergent coded, quan yizhen, and a lady who became a vengeful ghost because she loved a dude too much, xuan ji <3 i literally couldnt have oversimplified it more but here we are

there are also these really cute charms i found on etsy and the person who made them made one for like every character!! but theyre 8 dollars a piece and im,,,,,, im brokeeee,,,,,,, anyways i hope i can get some for christmas

OH OH O H OHOHOHO and the official english translations of the books are slowly seeping out, like physical copies!!! the first one is going to come out on december 7th!! and i think my parents are gonna get me it for christmas!!! and i think the second book comes out in february? i just cant wait to get all the physical books so i can read the series more easily. it's too bad the manhua's on hiatus right now :,) im honestly kinda sad but i understand the artist needs their breaks between volumes. still sad though, like now what do i do??
