U.S. government shutdown info. (TW// slight political topics)

this is to educate people, in no way am i trying to make drama out of something political.

im not entirely educated on political subjects, but im learning, if i say something wrong, correct me.

so basically what i've heard is that the U.S. government may be having a government shutdown today or in a few days, but im pretty sure its today.

what the shutdown is: it is not random, it is scheduled, it does not mean the government has 0 money. It means congress has just failed to do their job. Every year it's congress's job to fund the government before a certain time, this year congress has not done that. In a shut down federal government MUST stop all non-essential functions until a spending plan is passed. Functions that are essential, will have to work with 0 pay. depending on how long it lasts, national parks may close, passport processing slows, federal courts may postpone hearings, and federal contreactors may not get paid.

do not be worried about this, it happens every now and then, the last one was in 2018 which only lasted one month.

@starZ: I get that, I just meant that it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. I understand it could be much worse, and you explaining that the world isn't ending is actually really helpfulw05

@SilverlsMyName: i understand being worried about that. But some people were scared that it would lead to chaos and so much other things that just arent true. Like, people had been saying the government was appearently falling apart which was and is not true. The 'do not be worried about this' part it more directed toward people who felt the government was falling apart or stuff like that. /nm

i wouldn't say not to worry about this, since poor families like mine depend on government support to eat. The government shutting down means that for however long it's shutdown/government is trying to figure out new budgets, any and everyone who use food stamps will no longer be able to use and/or renew them as everything is down. This means no money for food.

my mom just went out today to buy what she could in preparation for it.
