Instead of them having to ask, just give them your preferred name when they ask for your name, instead of the other name. Unless its like important paperwork stuff, then you have to use your government name. But just give your preferred name from the start. Like I give "Ash" instead of Ashley and people know I want to be called Ash. My husband met me as Ash and it stuck.
