If you have a bunch of odd socks, learn to sew sock monsters. YouTube has a giant worm on a string tutorial made from yarn and cord. Turn a plushie inside out and restuff it. Repaint plastic toys. Get a tube of e6000 and plastic and metal stuff and you are now a sculptor. Collage is cheap and cool - start an art journal in an old book. Make slaps with sharpies and mailing labels.

My favorite thing I've made is a felt pennant that says FELT.
