Question about patterns

So this is from the Hello Kitty cuff pattern tutorial

Id like to know if i have to follow that green pattern. Like for example, in row number 3, can I just start with the first bead of the pattern, instead of the second one as it's shown? 513b39527b090_scared.gif513b39527b090_scared.gif

i think it just means the bead you'll start on and the bead you'll end on, its not important otherwise

ive made exactly one(1) cuff and i dont think you have to?? ill have to ask someo of my firends but you probably dont
