anyone else's lgbt patterns getting denied?

WATERPARKS 3/6/2022 01:21 am 623

ok, here's the thing i don't understand - i frequently make lgbt patterns that i haven't seen before, for example my butch/femme and bear brotherhood cuffs. all of these have been denied despite being some of the most well-documented and widely-used identities in the english speaking community. the bear brotherhood flag was one of the first widely-used flags for the community EVER. they were in the correct pattern type, category, everything. despite all this i see people get far more controversial* identities approved, so i don't know what's up with this website's possible homophobia problem.

*"controversial" as in less-used and often mocked identities (usually by cis lgb people and terminally online cishets)

@WATERPARKS: you’re welcome. It’s a valid concern if it seems like only your LGBT patterns are being rejected. I’m glad that you raised it even though I’m confident this wasn’t due to homophobia.

Looking at them, one of them (the bear mask) didn't get enough votes to be highlighted in the system for approval, so if the moderator was using the tool which only approves patterns with high enough votes, that would explain it. It's possible that we're being too efficient and it wasn't left in the queue for long enough though.

As for the bear cuff, I don't know: did it have any reports? We have a system which lets us mass reject patterns which have reports. We should ideally be checking out of all the reports and ignoring any malicious reports, but maybe that didn't happen here. If it had no reports, my guess is that it was rejected by mistake. The same moderator who rejected it has accepted tons of LGBT patterns so it doesn't appear to be a targeted thing.

For the butch/femme, if those are the plain stripe patterns, we generally try not to accept lots of plain horizontal stripe patterns these days since you don't really need a pattern for those and we have a lot of them. The same goes for non-LGBT stripe patterns. We also have to be very careful with diagonal stripes since a lot of people are making patterns which don't wrap around correctly.

The bear cuff got enough votes to be approved though, and I don't see a valid reason for it to be reported, so I will approve it. If you should have any other LGBT patterns rejected which you think you shouldn't have been, let me know. The moderators are reviewing a lot more patterns than normal recently, which is great, but there are definitely going to be some mistakes along the way. It's inevitable. But please trust me: I wouldn't allow an anti-LGBT moderator on the site. It goes against what the site is about and what I stand for.

Hey, I don’t know what happened here but I doubt it’s a homophobia thing. We have plenty of LGBT patterns on the site and I know people love those patterns. They might have been rejected by mistake, or the mods were rushing through them. If a mod was found to be consistently and intentionally denying LGBT patterns, I would remove their moderation powers because that’s unacceptable. I can see who’s accepting/rejecting what

I’ll go through and look at your patterns and see if I can figure out what happened. If it seems incorrect I’ll either approve them or put them back in the queue. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Hey! I saw this and I Just wanted to say most patterns that are denied are not made right. Like if the pattern doesn't fit the other end or is uneven. I'm bad at explaining but I hope that is understood lol. But I assure you the mods don't deny the pattern because they don't approve or support of that said gender or identity , ect. This sight isn't homophobic at all, It includes many differnt types of identities, gender ,culture ,ect . This sight is mostly used by lots of people in the LGBTQIA+ community! , including myself. I think this is just a misunderstanding on the whole pattern thing. I'm sorry If this doesn't make sense . I hope you have a great day <3
(Edit) I love your patterns <333
