Pattern uploads: let users vote for which are featured on the site?

Our current system of approving patterns causes a lot of good patterns to be missed and never put on the site, as I'm sure many of you have noticed (when your own patterns weren't approved) 2.gif If I set up a page where you the users could vote on all the appropriate uploaded patterns to choose which are published onto the main site, would any of you bother to vote? I'd make it so you could vote on many from one page.

That's a really good idea. I think it would work very well.

Absolutely! That's practically what I do anyway, go through and comment on the ones I like. This would be a perfect interactive feature.

Yeah for me its hard when people message and ask why too, and then when I check their patterns they have just change the background on an existing pattern. Or when there are manymany patterns for the same thing (botdf for example) and people just keep submitting ones where there is only a slight difference. I agree though, that sometimes it is hard to decide what is okay and what is not :/

Maybe it's not the best solution, but something has to change. I have this fear that people will stop submitting patterns if none of theirs are accepted. Maybe I should do a trial run once I've thought it through, and see how it goes.

I like the idea but personally think it would be very hectic. But as you said there are many patterns that are good but are not approved. And that is true. But users voting on the patterns? Im not quite sure how well that would work out.

It would involve some testing, because the amount of time that voting lasts would depend on how many people participate. We the mods would first have to remove any that don't follow basic rules (don't line up, are copied from another user besides me, etc). It could maybe be automated that after a pattern receives a certain number of votes, it goes live. I'd also have to do some checks to try to make sure that people aren't voting twice. I haven't fully thought through the details of this yet, obviously happy I'm not going to do it unless I'm sure it will work okay and be fair. My main reason for wanting to do this is that it's hard to be fair when approving patterns, and there are many patterns I almost didn't approve that people loved. A lot of people also ask me why their good patterns weren't accepted. Maybe some people don't want their patterns to be voted on by users though? There's a lot to think about sad
