How do you make a peyote stitch go from narrow to wide on different rows? (details inside)

For example, I found a picture of a lion peyote, and each row has a different number of beads because of the spikey mane... I have no clue how to go from a smaller bead count in a row to a larger bead count, I can only do it the other way around... Help please? 1.gif

there is this way of "tieing on beads" that i usually use. You can learn how to do this by watching a video on youtube onhow to make a peyote pacman.
