malware. omgomg malware.

its been what i like to call a "background hyperfixation" (thing that im hyperfixated on like all the time but it only really shows up in short bursts???) for like 5+ years. my favorite malware ever is the lacon worm. basically it's a worm discovered sometime in the 2000s, people would get infected with it via p2p networks (notably kazaa, possibly other file sharing services like limewire but the only source you can find about it online [danooct1's video on it] mentions kazaa specifically but idk). then, once that happened, it would continue to spread itself via email. it used the social engineering tactic of telling the user that clicking on the executable file in the email it sent out would add them to the "national no call registry" ("lacon" is "nocal(l)" backwards btw) so telemarketers wouldn't bother them. so you click on the executable, nothing happens that the user can see, until the 10th of any given month (it repeats every month until you remove it i guess), when the payload activates. this is my favorite part because its not even destructive??? like. it wants to mess with you and that's it. it doesn't delete your files, doesn't steal anything, etc (obviously i don't condone looking for the file that contains the worm unless you have a proper safe testing environment to run it in, idk if it can spread because it used an old outlook client but just to be safe Don't /srs). anyways, the user gets a message from the system saying "your angry computer: all i do is work, work, work. i quit!" and if you try to exit out it logs you off. but if you just kind of push the dialog box out of the way and open Internet explorer, IT PLAYS THE HOMESTAR RUNNER 404 PAGE!!!!!!!! (not the "404'd!" one but the "the system is down, yo" one). so yeah. harmless and silly. if i knew where to look for it i would like to look at the code just to see how it works

i love ranting about it and explaining what certain viruses/worms do but no one ever really seems interested. (in real life)

I was like really fixated on ninja turtles all through elementary school and just kinda forgot about them for years until I was reminded a few weeks ago when I saw the 2003 series playing on tv. I am now completely involved again and have a whole AU going on

Also don’t worry I randomly fall back into watching YanSim stuff too haha I am just a sucker for murder games and the time period when it was popular was just kinda a vibe
