Hi everyone,
Following on from my previous raid update, I wanted to give you some further details. There were some rumors going around that this raid might have originated on another social media website. I have determined that this is not the case. The raid was started by people who were already on this site. It was actually only two people making the bulk of the posts, with one single person making most of them from multiple accounts. Then one other person joined in a little bit. So although there were a lot of posts, this wasn't a major, coordinated raid.
In a comment, I said that I was going to go after the people involved. After looking into this, I’m not going to attempt to “ruin their lives” like I said I was. I was just very angry at the time. There is only one person involved who is slightly deserving of that kind of punishment, and I don’t want to focus on that much negativity because it's not healthy for me. I did report the content to a couple of relevant authorities, but that’s as far as I’m going to go for this.
I think that it’s much more productive to focus on adding security measures, so that’s what I've been doing. I still have more to do, and most of the features need to remain private in order for them to be most effective, but the new features you might notice are:
- On your account settings page, you now have the ability to turn off your messages or set them to friends only. Please consider changing your settings, especially if you're a minor. Let me know if you think the feature isn't working correctly. I rushed it out on very little sleep and very little testing, but so far it appears to be working.
- You can report photos, patterns, and users by clicking the orange "Report" button on these pages.
Completely unrelated, but we have been having issues with password resetting recently. The emails either weren’t being delivered (due to Gmail marking us as spam) or the activation keys weren’t correct for certain users. The emails are now being reliably delivered but I’m still monitoring them and working on them because I’m not convinced they’re fully functional. If you've previously tried (and failed) to reset your password on an old account, you might want to try it again. [edit] This was a problem with the account deletion emails too. I've fixed that as well.
