Does anyone else refuse to play a new game or watch a new show because you're afraid of it becoming your new special interest?
For me, a lot of my special interests have been long series with a lot of content and theories to be discussed or ongoing, lore heavy games so discussion is easy, but I recently watched Serial Experiment Lain and its a short anime with 13 episodes and a game (which I haven't played,) but there's so much less content to be discussed, especially since the series is pretty straightforward in its meaning. One of the other interests I've had for a long time has been Crime and Criminology on both sides (cop/detective and criminal) but SPECIFICALLY Criminal Psychology and Police Interrogation. I find it pretty difficult to have an actual discussion about them because if you don't understand it already, most conversation is just like "Ok cool, I see" yada yada. More like a learning time than a discussion with someone who is also well versed or has an understanding of human body language.
Also, now that I've watched a new show, I don't know how long it will take my brain to allow me to watch a new show and it really bothers me because I just want to watch something new but my brain is so captivated by Serial Experiment Lain that I don't have the mental capacity to take in the information from a new show. The same thing happened with Genshin, I had some friends that really wanted to play Stardew Valley but I was so mentally Taken by Genshin that I couldn't enjoy the game or any of its characters. I genuinely find it so annoying that I can't just enjoy multiple pieces of Media from the same realm at a time. I can only handle 1 show, 1 game, 1 activity, 1 Streamer, 1 type of video on youtube and that's it.
