Saw someone making a perler sprite of mine on Etsy. Flattered, or offended?

The most recent post on here has me wondering about something now. This probably happened a year ago and I haven't looked it up since, but I saw on Etsy one day that someone was selling a perler sprite that I made the pattern for. I didn't know if I should have taken that as a good thing or a bad thing, but I messaged them with a general "hey, I designed that pattern" message. I didn't complain or anything, but should I have done more about it? They never replied to me, so I pretty much forgot about it until now. If something like this happens, is there anything that can really be done about it? Or should we take it as a compliment? (And politely ask for credit for designing the pattern?)

Honestly, if it was something you wanted to keep a tight reign on there are ways to go about it. With art, you can patent the design as well as make sure if you have the pattern or picture posted anywhere you state that you are the creator and if someone wants to use it for anything other than personal use they need to A. give you credit and or B. Ask permission before using and selling it. Depending on how deep you look into copyright law where you are, having done at least the 2 above would have given you legal recourse to do something about it. BUT since this is something that's already happened and you didn't (or probably didn't) put a disclaimer on your art, you might want to just forget about it and consider it in the public domain. When you create something in the future, make sure to post carefully and look into copyright notices for your own protection if you are worried. Hope this helps.

If they didn't tag you, you should be pretty offended nahbecause you took your time to make that pattern, and I believe that Etsy has a claim button if they don't answer your message. So message them again, and if they don't reply, just claim the piece. flameflame

Flattered. They thought your design was good enough to be sold to the public and they also spent time making it. tongue

this site is to share patterns most kandi patterns are from someone else so should be fine that it ios getting used no point in feeling offended unless you salty that someone might make money off of you. But if you have made any kandi that is not a pattern of your own then whats the problem? PLUR not keep kandi secrets from other kandi makers. but thats just my prerspective rainbowsmilesunglasses

Flattered. You don't just post your pattern so people can stare at it, you want people to use it. You should be proud they want to us it to sell stuff. If you feel upset they are making money off of you just ask them to put your name in the description. lil rainbow

This actually recently happened to me with one of my narwhal patterns I personally don't know how to feel but by looking on etsy it happens often I mean its kinda of amazing cause they liked it enough to copy it and sell it for money but its kind of upsetting cause its your art its like your child and their just taking it no credit to you so I guess its really up to you how to feel about it happening kitten

I think maybe you should be a bit flattered by it. I think if someone makes a perler then they must really like it. Just like how I might use one of my favorite brony musician's cutie mark for a design. I like how you use the colors of the pansexual flag in your avatar by the way.hkheart

also I feel like many people over look the fact that the patterns were made by someone. I know I did at first, I had no idea different users made these patterns til I joined this site lol
