"Crumpet": Well singles, necklaces, and doubles are probably the easiest thing to make. Ladder cuffs are probably the easiest kind of cuff to make, but you don't always have to start at the easiest thing happy okay i'll keep that in mind. my first thing was a mask so i didn't know if that would be the easiest thing lol. but thank you. happy

Reply to thread: Is it wrong to sell kandi? [Go to page: 1, 2]

Oct 12, 2014 1:04 pm
All depends on how & what you are selling- there is going to be a fine line with this topic ONLY if you are wanting to create a business with what you create & sell online. Technically, selling kandi that has pictures of things we love (fandoms) from movies, games, cartoons and what not, IS NOT your own idea, and that would be copyright infringement. the gray area, lies with how you promote you item for sell & that particular companies rules on reselling their idea. (most companies care, some don't) If you create a My Little Pony inspired mask, or cuff & try to sell it online using the words "My Little Pony" (which is trade marked) you will at some point get your item removed. With Most older retro video games, you will not have issues with. Nintendo doesn't care, cause fandoms keep them alive. Other companies & more of the newer fandom fades, like My little pony, loki, dr. who, hunger games, so on and so forth- if you try to sell on a larger scale like an online site such as etsy.com, you will at some point get targeted & your items will be taken down, 3 strikes & your store gets banned. If you are only selling to your friends and/or random people you cross- you will not have any issues. If the idea is PURELY original & yours, have at it, sell anyway you want with no fear.

From your post it's not clear what kind of file you have. Is it an actual pattern image? Is it a photo of a mask? If it's an actual pattern, is the pattern already on this site? If it is, you can just go to the pattern page for it and click the "Copy to designer" button to copy it into your pattern maker account. If it's a photo, or if it's not on the site already, read on... The floppy disc is only for downloading patterns that you have already made yourself or copied into the pattern maker using the "copy to designer" button on the pattern pages. It doesn't seem relevant to what you want to do at all, so I'm not sure why anyone would tell you to do that. If all you have is an image file, you need to upload the image and then trace it. Here's how to do that: You need to host the photo on an image hosting site like http://imgur.com (no registration required) then copy the direct URL it gives you. The URL must end in .jpg, .gif or .png or it won't work. If you're not sure if you have the right URL, paste it here and I will tell you and fix it if needed. Once you have the URL copied, you need to go into the pattern maker and click the button that looks like a sunset photo with a plus sign on it, paste it into the field that appears, and click "Load." That will make the photo appear behind the template and you can drag it and resize it. Then you can trace it.

if you dont want to have to worry about using el wire. theres an easier way. If you go to emazinglights.com, you can order these little led lights that u can simply glue onto the left and right side close to the middle of the mask so it doesnt bother u. u just simply click the light on whenever u want to turn on the leds. its simpler than el wire, and u can order lights that have strobe effects or different colors. use the code "helpmeout" on the website to receive 5% off your entire order! winking

Reply to thread: My pegboards are melting?

look up the masking tape method on youtube. I use this to make sure my pegboards don't melt and so I can iron on a flat surface (I realize this is an old question but it might help people in the future)

i think it depends on how tight your knots are & also the size of your string. if it's .5 or .7 then you'd have to tie 2-3 knots to make sure it's secured tightly. if its 1.00 or bigger then you'd only need to tie it once since it's pretty thick & strong as well. when you tie them on, make sure you pull really tight, not tight where the string pops off, but tight enough where you know for sure that the knots you tied are secure & theres no possibility of them slipping or coming undone. slip the mask on after you're finished & see if that helps.

you could also try doubling up on the string if it's snapping. if it's your knots, try to make sure they're really tight. when I made my masks, I usually do 3-4 knots even though I use a 1.2 mm string for straps, just to make sure

for the kandi that you'll wear (either singles, cuffs or 3Ds) you use elastic beading cord. i use Stretch Magic, both the .7mm & the 1mm. for masks & other peyote creations including bags, bandanas & bikinis, use fishing line or you can use stretchy string, but the stretchy kind will make it look kinda weird cuz it doesn't always hold its shape. i use stretch magic for everything i make, but some people prefer to use fishing line. its really what you feel comfortable in using.

I use regular Stretch Magic .5mm for my bracelets and other things like that. For my masks, I use wire string. It's tough to work with sometimes, but it holds very very well.

I definitely think kandi shouldn't be sold in stores like that. Kandi is about meeting the people and sharing personal moments. If someone buys it, I suppose I can understand where they're coming from. On the topic of people commissioning kandi, I personally don't. I often trade art for kandi, because I love seeing artwork from people, but I personally don't see myself selling kandi. It's cool if others want to sell masks and cuffs. However, I would encourage people who do sell kandi to charge just over the cost of supplies and shipping. Like just enough to make it worth the time taken making these items.

Thank you to all who responded. c: I appreciate everyone taking the time to put their opinion out there. I'm still shaky on selling my masks, beanies, top hats, cuffs ect, because when I'm starting a new project I put a lot of love and effort into what I'm making. I'd feel guilty and a bit upset if some kid who didn't understand the meaning of PLURR just walked off with it thinking it was "just another accessory". As for the selling of singles, I'd never do such a thing. I feel like singles are meant to be traded (or given) to a new friend to create a special bond. Kandi with no heart put into it is just some beads held up by string. As for hottopic and Spencer's, I don't think they should call their products Kandi, but something more along the lines of "beaded bracelet". So, unless times get really hard for me I think I'm just going to continue making kandi for the joy of making kandi, and using my singles to spread the message of PLURR around my community. Thanks again everyone! -E.kitten =^.^=

The first picture is the cl***ic triangle peyote stitch bra. The second picture is literally making two masks and attaching them to one another. If you want to make something that represents both of you, do a bra with one side the original cheshire and the other side Tim Burton's cheshire. You can add the eyes, too, to make it cool looking. Hope this helps!

There's just not a lot of support when you get to the top like that. I suppose I could tighten them up, much like you would the middle, to form them into more "ear" like curves. I just know I had a problem with one of my sub masks, that the triangular corners were floppy, because of the lack of support beads.

1. I actually don't really kno what kind of string I use. Haha. I just grab any I see at Micheals. I should probably look into it more. I just like to grab a roll tht comes with alot of string. XD I've never used fishing line but I do hear alot tht it is preferred if u use it when making a mask. O: 2. I also use a super long piece and I make sure I have alot left over cause I also fear about it falling apart with many little strings. Dx but I do agree it's annoying to pull through a long string over and over again. 3.Lastly I just tie of any big cuff at the end. I've never had a problem with it coming undone but thts also because I make sure I tie it off with alot of knots. (:

You should try to make sure to tie a few more knots on the kandi mask. I learned that when I made a kandi perler necklace. it kept untieing and falling off. then I learned what the problem was. the nail polish technique works but you can also use some clear glue or hot glue. careful with the hot glue though if you use it. If you do a search for Tomorrowland these two mask patterns will come up: http://kandipatterns.com/patterns/misc/tomorrowlan... http://kandipatterns.com/patterns/misc/tomorrowlan... (same pattern, different color)

Reply to thread: Perler tape method?

Jun 9, 2015 8:42 am

Yeah go with the tape method! It saves boards! Basically you'd place the beads on the board as regular then lay masking tape over it. Punch holes with a pencil in EVERY hole and then peel the tape with the beads off the board and iron it! Hope it helped!

For masks i use fishing line. Cuffs I use regular .5 mm elastic, but for singles, I use an elastic thats more stretchy than regular elastic.

i've used both Stretch Magic 1mm & .7mm with singles & cuffs, but I'm soon gonna use some white stretch cord i found on Amazon for everything. i find the 1mm works with my peyotes & masks, but i feel like trying new string.
