I need help telling my friends my preferred name

What I did was I said something like “I know you’ve known me as (insert previous name here), but now i like to go by (preferred name here)” you can also add that you understand they might need some time to adjust. If they make a mistake when they speak you can politely correct them, unless you suspect that they’re doing it on purpose. I hope this helps and good luck
