(solved) how do i stop small peyotes from curling up?

you see this pumpkin guy here and how his beads are curving up at the edges? how do i prevent that happening when i tie off smaller peyotes

i don't have this problem with bigger peyotes like cuffs and panels and such. only with small charms. i use fabric covered stretchy string from amazon if string's the problem. thanks for any help
