Are you talking about your title - member/long-time member etc, or the little star icons? The star icons go up when you answer/ask questions, and your title changes when you've been here for longer. I'm actually planning on changing it so you have a number of points rather than just stars. and I think you should also get points when people give your comments a thumbs up.

I believe it goes up as you spend more time on here. (Like months or years) I think.. Not absolutely sure.
