aly, it's best just to use a piece that's as long as you're comfortable working with, then tie more on if you need it. because it's hard to predict the exact length of string you'll need in total.

I'm not sure if you mean smaller as in less wide or less tall? you could make it less wide by taking off the last two columns (or by removing the heart and moving hello kitty over), but other than that this is as small as it gets... when I was making this I made it as small as possible.
