Pattern approvals

Crumpet 1/30/2022 09:32 am 3427

The pattern approval system continues to be unsuitable for the large amount of patterns being submitted, and lately I'm the only moderator/admin approving any patterns, so it's impossible for me to get through them all. So I'm definitely missing a lot of patterns that should be approved. I'm very sorry about that, but there's not really a way around it at the moment. There's always going to be a degree of manual intervention involved, to ensure that patterns are valid, not inappropriate, not stolen etc.

For the most part what I'm doing currently is approving patterns once a week on a Sunday and filtering by patterns which have over 50 and over 100 votes, so that I can ensure that most of the super popular patterns are approved. I also often check out other patterns by the same user, if I'm already approving one pattern of theirs. But I'm looking at the most recent pages, so I'm not catching older patterns when I'm doing this. If your pattern received a high enough percentage of votes, it *IS* highlighted in the admin panel for approval. It's just a matter of wading through thousands of other patterns to get to it. And we can still override the number of votes if there's something wrong with the pattern (invalid/stolen etc).

If you've got any patterns older than two weeks which you think should have been approved, reply to this thread. You can tell me the specific pattern(s) if you want, but I'll check out all of your patterns anyway.

I have some other things I've got to do today, so I might not get to these until next weekend, so bear with me. I'm not going to reply to everyone, but I will check the patterns of everyone who posts here. Thank you.

update March 2022: I now have a new moderator helping me but the system is still very inefficient so this thread still applies.

hi crumpet! i have a question: i think its been a few weeks since i made my IBM peyote cuff pattern, but it was marked as not approved with no explanation - was it b/c of time waiting to be approved, its been stolen (although genuinely unintentional/unaware of other pending patterns showing IBM), or something else?

@Crumpet: I could help approve patterns I use this website everyday! I would probably have to stop once summer starts since I’ll be more busy but yeah I could help until then thumbsup

@pastel_vomit: I would love to do that, but it’s surprisingly difficult to find people to help. Some people say they want to help but then never reply back. Others only review a few patterns then get bored and stop. I’ve had a few good moderators over the years. TurboBeads is one of them. But TurboBeads is too busy to spend much time on here now.

I should add that you need to have a good understanding of how to make cuffs, because not all patterns that get submitted are valid patterns. Some designs don’t wrap around correctly, meaning the diagonal lines (for example) don’t line up. You also need to be able to correctly identify pattern types (meaning peyote have horizontal beads, multi have vertical beads). Because if patterns are marked as the wrong type, they don’t display correctly. This is mostly relevant for older patterns, but some newer ones do sometimes get marked incorrectly by the system.

Try not to stress too much! We appreciate all you do for us, and we totally understand that only so much can get done at a time. Have a great day Crumpet! peace

@Crumpet: i thought that's what it might be, but i wasn't certain. it not being centered bothered me and at the time i didn't think it'd be an issue.kao posh i'll go fix it and let you know!

@SmoochsPLH: unfortunately it was flagged as an invalid pattern by the system because it had an odd number of columns (cuff patterns must have an even number of columns to work correctly with multi stitch). So it can’t be approved unless it’s remade with the right number of columns. If you remake it, message me and I’ll approve it.
