TW: Accidental transphobia, grooming, sexual harassment, minor threats??

JubyPhonic haters can put a cactus somewhere sensitive. (For context, she said a slur that she didn’t know was a slur when she was 17, she apologized, and over a decade later people are still harassing her over it. Also someone posed as her to groom a minor, she responded appropriately, but people still think it’s her despite the fact that THIS PERSON MADE SEXUALLY HARASSING TWEETS TOWARDS HER. AND SHE HAS PROOF.) edit: you don’t have to like her, but please treat her like a human

@Fluorite_Draws: happy to break down the difference

i don' think religion should be taught in schools until at least middle or high school. lgbtq stuff is very different, i phrased it really poorly. bascially my stance as an lgbtq person is that the presence of lgbtq people or characters in school is not education, whereas queer history is. most people aren't mad about lgbtq education because it isn't taught,,ever. they're mad about lgbtq people exsisting.

religion often has a focus around eternity, life after death, sin, and hell. messages around hell, or the end of the world specifically are highly inappropriate to teach children. children, unless they have been in a life threatening situation, can't process death. what you're doing is scaring them.

children are incredibly impressionable, and will mirror their parents. children do not understand the weight of baptism, or of communion, or other rituals such as that. (referencing Christian sacraments here for two reasons: 1) familiarity 2) most other religions do NOT have dedication opportunities until the child has hit puberty.) they may participate without informed consent, which is NOT okay.

religions that have a focus around purity and purity culture is incredibly inappropriate as well. children should not be taught about virginity and sex until marriage until they are old enough for sexual education, yet that is a common lesson in religion.

even lighter stories, or messages about treating others with kindness, can be complicated for children. i don't think we should teach children to do good for religious reasons, but that we should teach children to do good because empathy, compassion, and such are important.

teaching your child that religion exists and telling them about religions is okay. answering questions about religion if your child has them is absolutely fine. teaching your child that they could endure eternal torture if they don't follow certain rules is psychological abuse. if parents did this under other circumstances, (ie...if you don't clean your room, you'll be burned in an eternal pit) people would freak out. why is it okay under religion?

@Glitch_Kandi: I agree with the first statement I just think it's okay to teach both LGBT+ stuff and religion in school, but that's just my personal opinion

@notgoodbutnotbad: You don't have to get it, you just have to treat other people well. It is perfectly okay to say "Look, I have a hard time keeping this stuff straight, there's a good chance I'm going to get your pronouns wrong but it's not out of malice, please correct me when I do." Manners will go a long, long way and make your life easier.

@Fluorite_Draws: i think teaching religion and things about LGBTQ+ is ok in highschool and collage bc some people need it for their jobs, but in elementary and middle school is a no for me. Religion should be taught by parents and not a school based around it

@Sleepy_Loss: I agree with most of this but disagree with the religion part it's not abuse if you teach your children about religion. So for example you are saying that schools shouldn't teach about religion then? I don't think that's okay for them not to teach about religion then children will never know what is out there for them, this argument is similar to saying that LGBT+ should be taught in school. If you say that's okay then why not religion? If teaching your child about that at a young age is okay then teaching the religion is okay. I'm not going to say whether or not I'm left or right, but I disagree with this statement.
