Kandi Mask Help and Tips??

trintacos123 1/7/2013 09:00 pm 11231

So, even though my B-Day party is 2 months away, i'm trying to figure it out NOW so I don't later when I get stressed. So I'm going to LazerQuest ( I LOVE to lazer tag) and my party is Adventure Time themed. I'm going to masks soon since I KNOW i won't later. I've made 2 masks before but I haven't finished them since I can't figure out how to do the straps and tie off the mask. I watched CellularMango's tutorial for the MASK but when I was ready to do the straps it said this junk like "This Video is not Available" or "This Video Is Private". I have been searching HIGH AND LOW for SOMETHING to help me, but I have -sadly- failed my mission. Can someone please help?? big grin Thank You so much guys!!

Try watching GingerCandE's tutorial on Youtube. She shows you how to tie it off and how to add straps. She helped me make my very first mask.

I couldn't have said it any better than Necro. GingerCandE has some helpful tutorials as well. If I had better words on how to describe how to add straps I would. Good luck though with your awesome laser tag idea.

Sorry about my videos being switched to private. It's out of my control. I can try to word it to you, but it'll probably sound really bad. Straps for masks are really easy. Once you do it, you'll probably be like, "really?" Eh, you probably won't even read this because it's so long, but I tried anyways: Once you finish the whole peyote portion of the mask, take a new piece of string. I would take a generous amount to be safe [but no more than an arm length]. With that new string, on the furthest bead to the left at the top of the mask [to better visualize, put your finger on the highest point/peak of the mask and trace downward/outward. That last, outter-top bead is the one I'm reffering to] you're going to thread the string though the described bead and half it. Add on as many beads as you need to fit comfortably around your ear. This will differ per person. Once you get the amount of beads you need, remember the way I described the bead you threaded the string through at first? Mirror the mask and you'll thread through the opposite bead at the bottom [the furthest bead to the left. Put your finger on the lowest point/peak of the mask and trace diagonally upward/outward. That last bead you reach is the one you thread through]. You will only put ONE end of the string through the bead so you can tie it. If you put both ends through the bead and tie it, all of the beads you strung on will fall off. Now, just do that same process for the opposite side. I'm sorry that came out so wordy- I'm just used to breaking down to the ridiculous detail so people can understand hahaha- In all the wordy-ness though you may get lost so just let me know if you still need help.

Oh yeah and I noticed if you go to the above tabs and look in the drop-down menu for "Kandi Tutorials", there's a specific one for kandi masks that you can use that has resources/guides/tutorials/ by four different people.

I know I commented on this before, but here's my tutorial. Fast-forward to 29:12 to see when I start making the straps-

I'm trying making a Kandi mask for a trade and the pattern looks like your normal surgical mask, except when it gets to the top, it has ears for the panda. Can you give me advice on how to make those? Either through explanation or video tutorial? I had the same problem last time with a sub mask and the top parts got all loose.

How many beads do you need to make a mask?

@Baylee, the amount of beads you need depends on the style and size of mask. You need to look at a pattern and check the bead counts.
