To all those who sell

This isnt a question, but beware of selling items online with notable characters I.E. Hello Kitty. I have recently had a problem with a copy right infringement on my hello kitty backpack which I made, although It doesnt look like Hello Kitty at all. So if you are selling your things online, dont call it by the characters actual name, dont want you to have to go through the same things I am at this time.

I've heard that Sanrio is strict about that kind of thing but I'd never heard of them removing anything from Etsy until now. They must have done a mass reporting :/ but yeah, like you said, the trick is to name it white kitty or something instead.

I tried to sell a domo cuff on Etsy, and apparently someone reported me. I got a message saying I can't sell domo products, yet if you search domo you get tons of results. I ended up having to just rename it. tongue

Hmm, I wonder how this happens. To report copyright infringement on Etsy you have to send a written letter and provide proof that you're the copyright/trademark owner. So I don't see how anyone besides Sanrio and the owner of Domo (whoever that is) could report items unless Etsy now lets people "tattle" on members or Etsy themselves check for copyright infringement.

I was very surprised to have my item unlisted due to this because if you look at my bag I made, it doesnt resemble the actual Hello Kitty character that much and the only thing that connects it to Hello Kitty is the name, so if the person who lodged the complaint gets back to me about the name change I will let everyone know the outcome of this fiasco

I probably will need to rename my stuff

Definetely start with re-naming anything that could have a copyright, the best prevention is to not give them something to attack in the first place =P

I've even heard of some people emailing the companies for aprovial, should someone do that or just not use the name? I have something on there with the actual name of the character on the cuff and I took it down after I read this so should I email the company or just leave it down?

Oh wow, thanks that's pretty good that you shared that, I really don't want to be held accountable for anything. It was really smart of you to share that ^-^

I would e-mail the company if you can, and put it up under a different name for now, Like I have a hello kitty bikini but I named it kitty bikini but I didnt get around to doing that with my bag before they pinned it and took it down forcibly, And I shared because this is happening to me right now and I know a lot of people sell just like me and our biggest items are main characters like domo and hello kitty so I dont want any other people to have the same problem I still have not heard back on wether a name change would take care of the problem for my case, and I emailed them 3 days ago so yah >.<
