Well, I have the intention to rave one day, so maybe all the 'kandi' I make is preparation for when I do? c: Also, I believe that kandi originated in raves, but has spread to more than that. What I'm saying is, if I meet someone outside of a rave and exchange kandi with them so they can remember me, does that not have the same meaning as exchanging it at a rave?

Well, what about people who make kandi but don't know it was part of the rave culture? Is it just "pony bead jewelry" then? :3 I actually have made "pony bead jewelry" for several years and well, I wasn't aware of kandi and raves for the longest time. I just made that jewelry because it's cute and colorful and I make pieces that mean alot to me~ I can understand if the jewelry is only called kandi if you've gone to raves and stuff, but I think ANYONE can make "pony bead jewelry". <3 And it shouldn't matter if a piece is really kandi or not. if it makes someone happy, that's really the best part~ (that's just my opinion though. OuO)

lol ppl were making beaded braclets at woodstock and such. but kandi is the name of a specific type of wear for raves wether its a single or an kandi outfit. the act of trading or getting them at raves is what makes it kandi. and it does have the same meaning indeed, just as friendship braclets are traded and such. its just hard to see ppl embrace a culture and represnt it (and not always in the best way) when they havent yet experienced or participated in it u know

making it and enjoying it is great. everyone should feel proud in their creations i say. its just when ppl run around saying im a kandi kid when uve never attended a single rave kinda kills the point of it lol anyone is free to make anything they want and should b encouraged to do so, but when u label it kandi, anyone and everyone associates it with raving

I understand completely. But until I can completely experience a rave, I find it much easier to categorize my 'awesome bead creations' as kandi.xD I hope you understand. Also, I don't try to make people think I go to raves when I don't. I don't even call myself a kandi kid.

lol its ok, im not mad at that. its just kandi=raving. part of rave life lol and thats good there are to many kids out there who make kandi, dont rave, and talk shit to others who are "posers" in their mind lol, hipocrisy at its finest lol

(Been raving for 3+ years so this doesn't apply to me) See I also mainly have an issue with the kids that say that they are "kandi kids" when they have never attended a single party. I guess its kinda different if you intend on partying when you are of age. But Honestly, I never made myself any kandi before attending a single party, I only received stuff from friend when they wanted to give me any (and I started raving within a month of receiving my first piece anyway) But yeah Hypocrites suck XD

yeah i dont mind it when ppl make stuff but putting it as kandi kinda misrepresnts it. lol been raving and making kandi going on 13yrs now, being one of original kandi kids it kinda angers me seeing when ppl do that. messes with the whole feel and vibe of being a kandi kid lol

Because making kandi is the new hipster thing to do. Just roll your eyes and walk away like I do when I ask kids wearing kandi if they rave and dont even know what a rave is. Sad, but its the truth.

most people look down on people wearing arm fulls of kandi whether you rave or not because not only is kandi related to raves, its related to drugs. Its why I dont think people that are too young (mentally) should be wearing kandi, calling it kandi, they shouldn't be associating with a scene they are too young to fully understand, or be immersed in the culture when it revolves around drugs for most people. This is just an opinion, I was a kid that was into raves for 3 years before ever going, but that was because I respected my parents decision to think I was not yet ready to be in that kind of environment. Whatever people on here do, they are creating some pretty good things for the most part, and if all they did was switch from pony beads to seed beads it would be 100% different and no one would say crap because its awesome in its very own way. Everyone is creative, why not let them be? Just as long as they don't pretend to be someone they are not or shouldn't be.
