What does the extra "R" in PLUR(R) mean?

Personally, I just use PLUR but I've seen some people spell it like "PLUR(R)"- Since the Rs in parenthesis I'm guessing it's an optional addition?

Responsibility. If I remember correctly, it came out of too many ravers being irresponsible, especially when it comes to drugs. If you’re not going to raves, the extra R probably isn’t relevant. I prefer the original.
