Beginner questions!

Hey all! I'm super new to kandi making so I'm having a couple issues I'm sure are beginner issues LOL. I tried to make a cuff with the elastic cord covered in fabric but couldn't get it to stay tight and it looked really lose and weird. Then I got this "stretch magic" plastic elastic thinking it'd hold better for some reason but it's mad stretchy and I can't even tie a knot in it without it coming undone. What's your favorite string to use and why? How do I keep what I've already threaded tight while stringing on new beads? And lastly, should I just glue a knot? Thanks so much for your help!

My string preference is actually the Darice brand Polyester string. You can get it at Micheals craft stores for like $3-4 bucks for 500 yards. Its strong and fairly easy to work with.

I like to use just normal elastic (preferably clear elastic) for my Kandi. It's very reliable and I haven't had a cuff or single break yet. I wouldn't recomend glueing the knot, I'd just triple knot it to make sure it stays knotted. nyanko

I love the fabric covered elastic, always best quality and the knots hold best. I tie a surgeons knot, and when I'm making a cuff I keep the tension fairly taut with my left hand while I string on new beads with my right. Its just something that comes with practice I think, you'll get it! heart bounce

and if you do use the stretch magic stuff, I suggest glueing or putting clear nail polish on the knot and not using anything smaller than .7mm!

I have always used fabric covered elastic and have never had any problems with it...

But one think I have always HATE working with was fishing line. It's not stretchy, of course, so I never used it for bracelets. But I have tried making peyoye stitches, masks, and other things that don't need to be stretchy, and it just ends up too loose.

I suggest that you just pull pretty hard on the fabric elastic, and for the stretch magic, pull it tight as well, and just tie am a bunch of knots, make them as tight as possible. And super glue it. People also burn the ends of stretch magic and stuff like that, so if you decide to burn the ends of the stretch magic, do it carefully.

I hope that somewhat helpedblushrainbowsmile

@KandiKaiju: I've never seen the Surgeon's Knot before, I always use the Blood Knot. It works really well when making your surgeon masks with fishing line. I use a 25 pound test. Not sure how it works in the cuffs yet.

personally, I've never had great luck with the clear stretch magic stuff. Go for the elastic beading cord wrapped in thread, and tie a surgeon's knot when you finish off your bracelets. Also, keep a little tension in the line while you string, not too much or you'll end up either breaking the string or getting a single that's too small.

Have fun happy
