Help me w sensory issues pls

hey, so basically,,, I have sensory issues with mainly hoodies (or any thing long sleeves). Not too much with pants but long sleeved stuff kills me sometimes (thus why I like summer that most :3) but that’s not the point. Point is how i deal with that is I run to the bathroom and take off my clothes and just chill there for awhile. Uhhh sometimes there is no bathroom in certain places or I’m not allowed to go, any tips for dealing with that right then and there? 5148b8c8a7991_confused.gif

chewlery!!!! i have sensory issues with a lot of my clothes (including kandi kao cry) and keeping something on me that i can chew on really helps me redirect my focus!!! hope this helps heart bounce

A lot of times, when i have a bad sensory experience clothing wise, i make a note of it. "ok, so i can't wear this hoodie when it's warm," and then i organize what clothes i can wear from that. But, if you feel the need to cover your arms (for any reason), flannels would help me a lot rather than hoodies. And, if the problem is overheating, maybe find a lighter sweatshirt that still does what you need it to do. I agree w/everyone in the comments on layering a good layer on bottom and a hoodie on top, but ik that can get warm sometimes. Sometimes sensory reset can help me too. It can be something as little as grabbing my water bottle and feeling the coldness of it, or sometimes it can be stuff like what you do and hiding out in restrooms. Just remember that your coping skills are valid and whack (/hj) anyone who says differently. kao cool animal06

maybe try sleeveless hoodies, the look good and feel good

though there is a problem with the cold..

maybe layer up, with a comfortable shirt as a base layer and a sweater/jacket/whatever overtop so you can just take off the top layer when you need a break from sleeves

@jamboscrimblo: I agree, I don't have the same level of sensory issues with long sleeves, but more of an anxiety of being too warm and not being able to take it off. I ALWAYS wear tank tops under my longs sleeve shirts because it 1. gives me an option to take it off, thus reducing anxiety, and 2. personally feels way more comfortable for my sensory issues.

sometimes i take the sleeves off and just keep my arms inside the main part of the hoodie or shirt!

If you absolutely need to wear long sleeves, maybe try finding something with a texture that is more manageable? I cannot stand tight shirts, especially long sleeved ones as well, but one of my sweaters is a bit easier to wear because I like the texture more than other things such as cotton. Also try & figure out if loose or tight sleeves are easier to wear.

Maybe try layering? If it is cold, you can put on a flannel or jacket that can easily be unbuttoned/unzipped if it needs to come off. If you must wear a long sleeves shirt, maybe put a tank top or t shirt on underneath so you can take the long sleeved shirt off if needed.
